Litter Trap in Westdorpe, Zeeland

In the Gent-Terneuzen Canal we have just installed one of our Litter Traps. The installation will prevent plastic pollution from reaching the Western Scheldt and eventually the North Sea.
The Litter Trap is a passive device using the water current and wind to capture floating debris.

The recovered plastics will be analyzed, monitored and made available for recycling. Also in this project CLEAR RIVERS will work together with students as part of our educational program. Within the 1st week the Litter Trap already captured 1m3 of floating debris.

Find here the video of the 2 days installation of the Litter Trap.

Collaboration

The pilot is a CLEAR RIVERS’ initiative, supported by Heymans, Rijkswaterstaat and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
